Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called a snap federal election on April 28, claiming he needs a strong mandate to address US President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

“I’ve just requested that the governor-general dissolve parliament and call an election for April 28. She has agreed,” Mr Carney said, referring to King Charles III’s representative in Canada, a member of the British Commonwealth

Speaking in Ottawa on Sunday, Mr Carney said the elections, which were previously scheduled October 20, needed to be pushed up in the face of the Trump administration.

“We are facing the most significant crisis of our lifetimes because of President Trump’s unjustified trade actions and his threats to our sovereignty,” Mr Carney said.

Earlier, comedian and movie icon Mike Myers appeared in a video with the new Canadian Prime to take a dig at Mr Trump and the US-led trade war.

One in three Australian adults are not working and pay no income tax because they are retired, disabled or unemployed, according to new research that blows apart commonly-held beliefs about average Australian incomes.

And it’s likely a lot less than many people imagine, with the Grattan Institute revealing more than three-quarters of Australian workers earn less than the average full-time wage of $104,765 a year.

The typical full-time Australian worker actually earns $90,416, and the typical Australian worker (including part-time workers) earns just $67,786, the Grattan Institute found.

“And about one-third of Australian adults are not in paid work because they are retired, have a disability, care for others, or are unemployed,” he added.

“So, the typical adult’s income (from all sources) is less again, at $42,027 in 2019-20, the latest year for which data are available.”

The Institute also discovered that average middle aged household wealth was $809,000 that is those aged (41- 64) compared to younger people at $238,000 those aged (25-40), largely based on property wealth. Despite this, “The typical retired household has only about $9,000 in super. Nonetheless, retirees tend to report low levels of financial stress (provided they own their own home.

Australia’s leading environment organisations have abruptly suspended advertising campaigns attacking the Coalition’s plan to introduce nuclear power and are instead funding ads accusing Anthony Albanese of signing “the death warrant” of an endangered species.

The shift from criticising the Coalition to Labor on the cusp of an election campaign was agreed by the bosses of green groups – including the Australian Conservation Foundation, Greenpeace, the WWF Australia and the Climate Council – at what campaigners described as an emergency meeting on Saturday.

It reflects widespread anger within the environment movement about Albanese’s plan to rush through legislation this week with Coalition support to protect the salmon industry from a long-running legal challenge over its impact on the endangered Maugean skate.

Two of the key threats to the Maugean skate are habitat degradation and loss, particularly documented declines in dissolved oxygen levels and in sediment health, and unintended mortalities from entanglement in fishing nets set to catch other species

US President Donald Trump has been urged to attack Australia's media laws after a formal complaint described them as "coercive and discriminatory".

In a formal complaint, the Computer and Communications Industry Association - made up of members Meta, Google, X and several other major companies - responded, singling out Australia's News Media Bargaining Incentive as a "key example" of discriminatory taxation of digital products and services toward US companies.

The submission, penned by the CCIA's trade policy manager Amir Nasr said "Australia’s extraction and redistribution of revenue from U.S. digital suppliers to local news businesses is reported to have cost U.S. firms [US]$140 million annually”.

Mike Benz, the founder of the Foundation for Freedom Online, recently joined Joe Rogan on his very popular podcast. It is now being reported that During their conversation, shared how Barack Obama was using money to USAID to pretend to send “aid” overseas. In actuality, Obama was laundering the taxpayer dollars and using it to train “rent-a-mobs” instead!

“This was a scandal during the Obama USAID era. We were running a number of rogue USAID operations in Cuba at the time. — I’m simply showing the American people where your tax dollars are going and how these things are structured in order to systematically fool you and to fool Congress and to fool the White House:

USAID pumped $1.2 billion in, Obama funded a Twitter clone that would be used to push propaganda in Cuba to inspire these protests and overthrow the government (Mike Benz explains how Barack Obama overthrew many governments)

“So what they did is they took the exact same thing as Twitter, same user interface But the whole trick about it was you have to make it look like it’s coming from the Cubans if you’re going to do this operation. They started running this in 2010 which right during the Arab Spring.

A “non-binary” passenger has filed a lawsuit against European budget airline Ryanair for not offering gender-neutral title options when people book flights.

The passenger seeks $5,400 in damages and wants Ryanair to change its policy to have gender-neutral title options.

The plaintiff was seeking an out-of-court settlement, of course, but Ryanair officially refused earlier this week. The case will now be heard by the Berlin state court.

United Airlines became the first airline to offer non-binary titles in 2019, allowing people to choose “U” (undisclosed) or “X” (unspecified) as their genders.

Snow White had a mediocre opening day at the US box office amid the ongoing controversy surrounding the film, while Robert De Niro’s mob drama The Alto Knights has completely tanked.

The Disney live-action remake, which stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, took $16m across Friday and preview screenings from 4,200 venues across the US.

Variety reports that this figure puts the film on track to land a projected opening weekend north of $45m.

Snow White has a steep climb ahead – it carries a production cost of more than $250m, meaning it will have to have a successful theatrical run to reach profitability.

By comparison, 2023’s The Little Mermaid, which had a similar budget of $240m, made $95m on its opening weekend, more than double what Snow White is projected to make.
